Psychotherapy is primarily a talk-based therapy and is intended to help people improve and maintain their mental health and well-being. Psychotherapists work with individuals, couples and families in individual and group settings. Psychotherapy occurs when the Psychotherapist and client enter into a psychotherapeutic relationship where both work together to bring about positive change in the client’s thinking, feeling, behaviour and social functioning. Individuals usually seek psychotherapy when they have thoughts, feelings, moods and behaviours that are adversely affecting their day-to-day lives, relationships and the ability to enjoy life.

A psychotherapy client should be able to observe the following key elements over the course of their care with a Psychotherapist :
A conversation about the benefits, risks and expected outcome(s) of the psychotherapy and the opportunity to give their informed consent
A clearly communicated, mutually agreed upon goal or plan for the psychotherapy
Each therapy session has a clear beginning and a clear end where problems or concerns are presented and discussed and outcomes are explored
the Psychotherapist demonstrates the appropriate use of boundaries to create a safe and confidential environment

Psychotherapy is a controlled act that may only be provided by a member of a psychotherapy regulating college of Ontario.

Certified Athletic Therapists are best known for their quick-thinking on-field emergency care of professional and elite athletes. The first to respond when someone gets hurt, they are experts at injury assessment and rehabilitation. It’s that same mix of on-site care and active rehabilitation skills that makes Athletic Therapists so effective in treating the musculoskeletal (muscles, bones, and joints) injuries of all Canadians, whether on the field or in the clinic.

Athletic therapists adhere to the Sports Medicine Model of care. They treat a wide range of patients, from kids with concussions to seniors recovering from hip replacement surgery, using various manual therapies, modalities, exercise prescription and even bracing and taping. The treatment varies but the objective doesn’t: an Athletic Therapist's goal is to help clients return to their usual activities, whether that means playing competitive sports or walking to the mailbox and back.

While known for their expertise in conditions of the neck and back, Chiropractors are trained in the management of conditions that affect muscles, joints, and nerves from head to toe. After an initial assessment, if your Chiropractor believes you could benefit from care, they will recommend an individualized plan of management that keeps your preferences in mind. This may include hands-on therapies like gentle mobilization, manipulation, soft tissue therapy, and/or assisted stretching; all of which aim to reduce pain/discomfort and increase range of motion (decrease stiffness). The intent is to help you feel better while supporting self-management. Education on your condition, how to modify tasks and training to support recovery, and individualized exercises that make sense for your ability/lifestyle are an integral part of Chiropractic care.

Chiro-Pilates and FST at River Lines are both offered by a licensed Chiropractor and will be billed as such. If you have extended health coverage for Chiropractic care, Clinical Pilates and FST will be covered under your plan.

Yoga is an ancient and complex practice, rooted in Indian philosophy. It began as a spiritual practice but has become popular as a way of promoting physical and mental well-being. Although classical yoga also includes other elements, yoga as practiced in the North America typically emphasizes physical postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), and meditation (dyana). There are many different yoga styles, ranging from gentle practices to physically demanding ones

Yoga and two practices of Chinese origin—tai chi and qigong—are sometimes called “meditative movement” practices. All three practices include both meditative elements and physical ones.

Sound healing has been used in nearly every culture across time to aid in the treatment of both
mental and physical illnesses and injuries. Vibration from instruments and voice directly affects
our brainwave states, stimulates the brain stem (responsible for autonomic/peripheral nervous
system and survival), allows safe access to the limbic system (memory and emotion) and brings
the cortex online (executive functioning). Certain sounds can slow down brainwaves to the
lower alpha and sometimes theta brainwaves states that are associated with relaxed
wakefulness, light or deep meditation, focus, and bridging the conscious and subconscious
mind. It also helps with nervous system regulation – activating the parasympathetic nervous
system response, which is our “rest and digest” state. This is where healing occurs. The body
and mind are relaxed in this state, and we can repair.

Jenn has had a lifelong love affair with yoga. She recognized that she has always been a big stew of questions about existence and always fascinated with nature and inspired by soulful sensuality, long before learning anything about these traditions. Living and breathing the teachings began in 2009, while immersed in a 200 hour YTT with Jennifer Anne Burke of The Gentle Way of Hatha. Momentum intensified onward after a 300 hour YTT with Tiffany Nicholson-Smith of The Vichara Yoga Shala, founder of Rasha Ayuraveda Clinic & Apothecary. Extensive hours immersed in concocting healing potions, soaking up Ayuravedic curriculum and providing guidance at farmer’s markets felt timeless amidst a growing passion. Her offerings and teachings have diversified over the years to include classical Vichara Yoga, Trauma Sensitive Yoga, Pre & Post Natal Yoga, Kids Yoga,. Yoga Nidra, and Yin Yoga - while highlighting the power and benefits of mediation. Her most recent venture has been the creating of a project called “Yoga in Kind”, which stems from the determination to provide Free & Inclusive yoga to the community.

Yin style yoga is the ‘quiet yet profound” practice. Poses are held longer and are static and passive compared to other types of yoga. It is complementary to other styles of yoga like Ashtanga, Vinyasa etc. The Yin asanas, (sanskrit word for poses) are to encourage the fascia and deeper tissues to release tightness, stickiness and allow life energy, Chi or prana to flow freely.

Each pose ideally is held at least 3 mins but may be shorter or longer depending on the individual. Options are offered and encouraged to feel the sensations targeting different areas.

Be open to try a yin practice. I will be honoured to teach as I continue to learn yin from my modern yoga teachers.

Benefits and enhancements Physical: stability, strength, flexibility and endurance. Mental: clarity, focus, concentration. Emotional: balance and maturity. Energetic: vitality, balance and flow Spiritual: awareness, intention, grounding and connection.
